Midsummer Siberians - About Us
|
One night in February 1985, Cindi bounced into our bedroom after returning from a hockey game and announced, "I want a Siberian Husky and I want to name him Puck." My thought was what a horrible thing to do to a poor puppy - to name it Puck. At that time we already had 2 mix breed dogs, so we told her that she would have to wait to get a Siberian Husky. In June of 1988, Charlie, a small brown dog, crossed the rainbow bridge at over 20 years of age.
As everyone knows Siberians are like potato chips "You can't have just one." Shortly after Puck joined our household, we moved to the Antelope Valley about 75 miles north of Los Angeles. In December, Cindi drove to LAX to pick up a small beige blob, whom we named Tigger - he grew up to be Am/SKC/Mex/Int Ch Innisfree's Snow Dancer II. In June of 1989, Puck's breeder presented us with our foundation bitch Lady - SKC Ch Bantak's New Years Lady. When we decided to show and breed Siberians, we set some very strict rules for ourselves. We don't breed often - when we do it's for a reason. ANY dogs born here have a home here whenever they need it. Our sales contract specifies that we will take the dog back if necessary for any reason. So far we have only had to have one dog returned to us. His name is Ch Midsummer's Max Overdrive. Max presently lives with his co-owner in Las Vegas. When he was returned to us at 16 months of age, his coat was matted with cedar chips in his tail and his tail had been hacked at to try to remove the chips. He was also afraid of men.
All of our dogs have their eyes checked clear for cataracts and any other congenital eye diseases and all our dogs also have their hips check for hip displasia before breeding them. DNA typing is currently underway. Our babies are handled from birth and are use to having people around them for loving and playing.
